PURPOSE & OBJECTIVE

The Underground Mine Superintendent will drive the implementation of the mining schedule and ensure contractor compliance to mining standards is maintained. This is to be achieved by:

• Providing operational advice and guidance to the mine planning team to ensure mining plans and schedules are well informed, robust, and sound from an operational perspective.
• Management of mining contractor on day-to-day operations with input into higher-level management of the contractor.
• Proactively measuring, monitoring and supporting our underground mine contractor partners to achieve the mining schedule milestones through safe and efficient mining.
• A focus on innovation and continuous improvement to achieve/exceed industry best practices.

The role will also develop a team of high-performing, skilled, motivated and engaged mining operational professionals, including succession planning to replace expatriate personnel within the team over time.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Safety

Work with our mining contractor partners to ensure a focus on safety is maintained and that best industry practices are being followed. This includes ensuring that all incidents (Including near misses) are promptly reported and thoroughly investigated to understand the root causes and implement controls to prevent a re-occurrence.

Mining Standards

• Manage the contractor’s compliance with Endeavour mining standards and contractual requirements. Ensure that defects are suitably rectified by the contractor in a timely manner.

Schedule Compliance

• Manage the contractor’s compliance with mining schedules by providing guidance, advice, and assistance where required.
• This includes ensuring Endeavour’s contractual obligations are met so as not to delay the contractor’s performance.

Cost Compliance

• Ensure that costs to Endeavour are minimised through safe and efficient mining practices. This includes verifying the validity of the contractor’s ground support, dayworks, and delay claims. Delay claims are to be tracked, analysed, understood, and actions taken to minimise.​​​​​​​

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential

• Minimum of 15 years of experience working in a similar senior role in industry-leading safe and highly-productive mechanised hard-rock underground mines.
• Experience working for at the Foreman/Superintendent level for a Tier One underground mine contractor in an expatriate environment.
• Experience on client-side management of underground mine contractors.
• Exposure to a variety of different underground stoping methods.
• Significant experience in high speed mechanised jumbo decline development mining.
• Fluent in English with good report writing and presentation skills.

Desirable but not essential

• Expatriate experience, preferably in Africa.
• Formal Shift Supervisor qualifications.
• Project experience with production ramp-up.
• Experience managing & administering commercial aspects of underground mining contracts.
• French language skills
