1. PURPOSE & OBJECTIVE
Reporting to the STP Processing Superintendent, this operationally and strategically important role is responsible to develop, implement and sustain a structured training system for the Sulphide Treatment Plant (STP), including the BIOX process, to improve operator competence, safety, plant reliability and metallurgical performance.
The Training Specialist will ensure personnel have the knowledge and practical skills required to safely and consistently operate all areas of the plant to best practice standards.
The position is offered on a FIFO basis, with a 6 weeks on / 3 weeks off rotation.
2. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Safety Management
- Comply with all Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
- Ensure the area’s compliance with the requirement of Government Agencies, lending institutions, shareholders’ interests, environmental, health & safety legislation, and company regulation.
- Demonstrate personal commitment regarding safety.
- Ensure that agreed procedures, safeguards and controls are applied and used.
- Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with Company standards and procedures
- Ensure hazard management plans are observed.
- Keep statutory and internal reporting as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain competency-based training packages for all STP areas, including crushing, grinding, flotation, BIOX, CCD, neutralisation, CIL, elution, gold room and reagent handling.
- Deliver classroom, field and on-the-job training for operators, technicians and supervisors.
- Assess operator competency through practical and theoretical assessments and maintain training records.
- Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, training presentations and assessment tools.
- Coach and mentor operators to improve technical knowledge and operational discipline.
- Identify competency gaps and develop targeted improvement plans.
- Work closely with Metallurgy, Operations and Maintenance teams to ensure training aligns with operational requirements.
- Monitor training effectiveness through competency assessments, plant performance and operational observations.
- Develop local trainers and supervisors to ensure a sustainable training system.

3. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- Extensive operational experience in sulphide gold processing plants.
- Strong practical knowledge of BIOX operation, microbiology, process control and troubleshooting.
- Experience in flotation, leaching, gold recovery and associated unit operations.
- Demonstrated experience developing and delivering technical training programs.
- Excellent communication, coaching and mentoring skills.
- Strong understanding of process safety and operational risk management.
- Experience developing competency frameworks and training documentation.
