PURPOSE & OBJECTIVE
Reporting to the Processing Manager this operationally and strategically important role is responsible for the coordination of the Process Operations, Tailing Management System, Process and Metallurgy & Technical Services to safely achieve production targets across both the Sulphide Treatment Plant (STP) and Whole Ore Leach (WOL) plants.
The position will work back-to-back with the process manager to manage site technical and operations teams.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Safety Management
- Comply with all Occupational Health and Safety requirements ;
- Ensure the function’s compliance with the requirement of Government Agencies, lending institutions, shareholders’ interests, environmental, health & safety legislation, and company regulation.
Technical and operational management
- Support and assist in the setting priorities and assist in the allocation of resources to manage human, financial, and operational resources of mill operations.
- Ensuring the priorities and targets are managed in a logical and cost effective and safe way and importantly communicated to all levels of the organisation.
- Providing leadership and technical direction to the metallurgical and operational teams to ensure mill operating practices maximise operational efficiencies.
Budgeting and Cost Control
- Formulate the consolidated annual operating and capital budgets for process plant operations. Review and maintain costs within budget by supporting and informing processing operations, [managing plant activities and cooperative communication with purchasing personnel] to provide cost effective solutions for processing plant consumables.
Operation in a Cost Effective & Productive manner
- Develop systems and measures that appropriately assess mill operations and laboratory performance and review progress to ensure the achievement of targets.
- Promote the quality of thoughts, actions and behaviours necessary to continuously improve performance.
Plant Optimisation Initiatives
- Assist and Support the development and execution of initiatives and strategies to optimise plant operations and support growth of processing activities.
Production
- Management, administration, and implementation of Group HSE policies and procedures. Implement regular review and updating of plant procedures where required ;
- Uphold, in actions and in words and deeds maintaining the safety and integrity of the processing operations. On the premise that safety is no compromise, ensure that the morale and physical authority, together with the responsibilities vested in this position are exercised wherever and whenever the need arises. Ensure the understanding for all personnel of incident reports, risk assessments, safe work procedures, company policies and procedures and ensuring they are continually updated to meet current conditions.
Development of Personnel
- Developing systems and practices for process plant and laboratory training to ensure the highest calibre of production and technical personnel is maintained within a structured development matrix and ensuring all training records are kept up to date ;
- Maintain the objective of developing a culture and environment to encourage the training of national employees as well as the establishment and regular review of succession plans ;
Safety Management:
- Demonstrate personal commitment regarding safety and environmental and Social Responsibility practices.
- Ensure every person within the team is fit for work ;
- Ensure that agreed procedures, safeguards and controls are applied and used ;
- Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with Company standards and procedures ;
- Ensure hazard management plans are observed ;
- Keep statutory and internal reporting as required.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Education:
- B.Sc. or MSc Degree in Metallurgy, Process Engineering or related field.
Relevant experience:
- Minimum of ten (10) years of metallurgical and/or processing within the gold mining industry at a manager and/or superintendent level.
- Must have experience in water management, tailing management, mineral processing, cyanide code compliance for gold operations, refractory & complex metallurgy.
- Experience with Biox processing an asset.
- English language skills essential and French an asset.
- Experience of working effectively in a senior management team environment.
- Experience working in multicultural environment, preferably in West Africa.
- Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation and build effective relationships and networks.
- Demonstrate strong conceptual skills and be capable of developing lateral and practical solutions.
- Ability to respond to a changing work environment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at the same time.
