The health and wellbeing of our people at our mine sites and within the communities around us are at the heart of how we work.
Malaria continues to be one of the most significant health risks in the areas where we operate, affecting employees and families alike. But unlike many risks, it is both preventable and treatable. That’s why we are taking a long-term, supportive approach that builds local capacity and strengthens health systems.
In malaria endemic regions, this means going beyond compliance to invest in projects that deliver real change. Since 2021, we’ve set up targeted malaria prevention and response initiatives, in partnership with local health authorities. These initiatives integrate prevention, vector control, early diagnosis, treatment and community engagement.
Our commitment continues to deliver meaningful results, including:
- 77% reduction in malaria cases among our employees since 2021, including a record 70% reduction in 2025 alone.
- more than a 75% reduction in the malaria incidence within high-intervention zones near our mines.
- thousands of households engaged in our community led prevention and awareness programmes.
Through targeted action, strong partnerships and community engagement, we’re helping to make malaria a far less common and far less devastating threat. Together, we are protecting lives and supporting healthier futures for our people and our neighbours.
