The Role

The Specialist – Operational Geology is responsible for direct action to support the operational sites to drive mine geology, GC drilling, sampling, geology systems (Sirovision, OrePro3D, BMT), and reconciliation standards and/or problem solving. This role’s particular focus will be in solving critical issues as they arise, in alignment with group Standards.
This role provides direct and ongoing site support to Endeavour Mining’s operations and requires frequent visits and significant time on site.

Key Responsibilities

Mine Geology and reconciliation optimisation:

  • Be able to directly support the entire workflow of an operational Geology related challenge from problem identification, solution recommendation, implementation and presentation of results.
  • Be able to scope, commission, and manage contractors who are in the remit of this position.
  • Set technical and operational guidelines to implement the best industry practices during mining operations including, but not limited to, grade control techniques, grade forecasting, ore management and mine to mill reconciliation.
  • Deliver technical expertise and support in the management of mine geology during mining operations with the aim of maximising mined ore grade whilst minimising ore loss/dilution gain.
  • Oversee production reconciliation, stope reconciliation, and historical reconciliation.
  • Work closely with the different Endeavour mining operations to optimise operational development and maximise ore extraction to optimum grades.
  • Work with group Geology SME to ensure all appropriate standards and procedures are in place throughout the geology teams onsite for: operational geology and material routing controls, RC drilling, GC block modelling, sampling, and mapping.
  • Conduct site reviews to identify gaps between current operations and best standards, clearly document and define actions to align with best standards.
  • Identify and roll-out performance operational excellence projects.
  • Support budget and forecasting requirements, reviews, and inputs. Be able to understand and keep track of all critical deliverables on each site, to ensure the delivery of key operational project delivery.

Compliance / Quality Control:

  • Promote and adhere to appropriate corporate methodologies, policies, procedures and standards.
  • Provide input/informed commentary, improvement opportunities and areas of risk to Endeavour mine sites.
  • Monitor quality assurance programs to ensure accurate records are maintained during all operational geology activities.
  • Contribute to ongoing geological improvement by analysing existing processes and offering suggestions for enhancements.

Mine site Geology Development:

  • Provide guidance, coaching and technical assistance and support to the individual mine site geology departments.
  • Keep and maintain accurate levels of the development level and skills of the Endeavour site’s geology teams, clearly indicating who is a ‘high potential’ employee for promotion and who requires additional up-skilling.
  • Encourage and facilitate effective and supportive communication between operational groups within the company.

Optimisation and Continuous Improvement (Operational Excellence):

  • Be able to create ad-hoc assessments for cost / cash flow, NPV and IRR.
  • Contribute to overall business improvement and profitability by identifying and working with sites to implement efficiency plans and cost reduction plans where possible within the department whilst supporting organisational objectives and achievement of set targets.

Staff Development:

  • Provide guidance, coaching and technical assistance and support to the Mine Geologist on the operational sites.

Safety Management:

  • Demonstrate personal commitment regarding safety, environmental and Social Responsibility practices.
  • Ensure that agreed procedures, safeguards and controls are applied and used.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with Company standards and procedures.

Key Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Geology.

Experience & skills:

  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in Geology within mine operations
  • High-level of knowledge of mineralisation models, geological processes, ore management/control, mine operations and ore reconciliation.
  • English skills essential, French highly desirable.
  • Experience in West African desirable.
  • Experience of working effectively in a senior management team environment.
  • Experience working in multicultural environment.
