The Role
Reporting to the Mine Planning Superintendent, the Senior Long Term Mine Planning Engineer is responsible for all the medium to long-range planning including pit optimization, pit design, scheduling for Sabodala Open Pit Mine.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Technical Accountabilities
- Develop and revise operational and long-term cost models.
- Run optimization and sensitivity analysis and deliver related designs.
- Develop and implement medium- to long-term mine plans and ensuring budgeted targets are met.
- Calculate and present mid-year and annual ore reserves to standard as per legal requirements.
- Planning of mine infrastructure required for operations efficiency and mine expansion.
- Prepare 12-month rolling forecasts and be accountable for the accuracy and completeness of that plan.
- Run corporate strategics scenario and reserve numbers.
- Provide a monthly reconciliation against the month plan / forecast and actual performance. Manage ore production and waste line management.
- Timely identification of ground control and other geotechnical instability problems and take appropriate action as may be required.
- Undertake project work and troubleshooting as required for further optimization.

- Implementation of agreed procedures, safeguards, and controls.
- Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with Company standards and procedures
- Ensure hazard management plans are observed and reported.
- Keep statutory and internal reporting as required.
- Active participation to Health & Safety.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
Essential:
- Minimum Bac+4/5 in geology or mining engineering or related field.
- At least 5 years of operational experience working in the open pit mining operation with minimum 2 years in strategic planning.
- Fluent in English with excellent report writing and presentation skills.
- Demonstrates strong conceptual skills and be capable of developing lateral and practical solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to respond to a changing work environment.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and tasks at the same time.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, advance knowledge of Ms Excel including coding in Visual Basic for Excel.
- Excellent knowledge of mining software (Surpac, Vulcan, Minesched, whittle).
- Ability to code easily in tcl language/ Python language is a plus.
Desirable but not essential
- Further qualifications in mining economics/finance.
