The Role

Reporting to the Process Operations Superintendent, the ReCYN Operations Coordinator is responsible for supervising a multi-shift operations sections and, for partnering with the metallurgy, maintenance and plant operations sections to safely achieve and exceed daily, weekly and monthly copper, cyanide and golds production targets through the ReCYN plant by recovering these metal and reagents contained in the plant tails before disposal into the TSF.
This role is essential to the Ity’s process plant success with the incumbent playing a key part in maintaining productivity, safety and environment protection levels and standards by providing training in development of skills and competencies.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Management

  • Demonstrate personal commitment regarding safety and environmental and Social Responsibility practices.
  • Ensure no accidents take place and proper reporting and corrective actions for the reported accidents.
  • Ensure every person within team is fit for work.
  • Ensure that agreed procedures, safeguards and controls are applied and used.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with Company standards and procedures.
  • Ensure hazard management plans are observed. 
  • Keep statutory and internal reporting as required.
  • Active participation in the Health & Safety Committee. 
  • Assist in leading efforts to complete incident reports and investigations with Operation team as soon as reasonably practical following an incident.
  • Manage and assist Operation team on high HCN & H2S gas level events and follow up implement preventative measures. 

Production Accountabilities

  • Coordinate multi-shift operations in accordance with the processing plan.
  • Coordinate ReCYN plant maintenance downtime with maintenance department.
  • Achieve monthly production and quality targets.
  • Develop and recommend operating procedures and maintain operating standards.
  • Assist the Process Superintendent when required to month end reports on operations performance variances.

Cost Management & Reporting

  • Coordinate input for the business unit during the budget preparation process for senior management.
  • Provide day-to-day input of information to ensure compliance with budget and forecasts, highlighting any variances to management.
  • Assist in the management of spending within approved budget.
  • Ensure budgetary constraints are adhered to by minimising wastage without jeopardizing the quality of the services provided.
  • Manage the consumption of workplace consumable inventories and arrange for replenishment of such items should stock levels below.

Staff Management

  • Supervises the development, delivery and documentation of ReCYN Supervisors.
  • Coordinates the scheduling, delivery and documentation of all other employee training and liaises with the Process Trainer to achieve this.
  • Build, maintain and improve teamwork participation so that employees understand their role, what is expected of them, and how the team is performing. 
  • Recommend staffing requirements and participate in the hiring process
  • Assist the Process Operations Superintendent to evaluate staff performance and provide feedback
  • Assist the Process Operations Superintendent in conducting annual staff performance
  • Assists in resolving discipline related issues.

Compliance/Quality Control

  • Promote and adhere to appropriate internal methodologies, policies, procedures and standards.
  • Consistently maintain a high quality of work across all allocated functions.
  • Provide input/informed commentary, improvement opportunities and areas of risk to management.
  • Control the quality of work output from the department by implementing ongoing monitoring and audit processes to ensure compliance against company standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory and company standards through training and development of staff and promoting by example.
  • Develop an improvement in culture by actively encouraging employees to participate in continuous improvement, capturing their initiatives and providing feedback.

Position Requirements

Education:

  • Process Engineering/Chemistry/Geology/Mineral Processing diploma.

Relevant experience:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in gold processing plants (crushing, grinding & CIL circuits), including at least 5 years at the foreman, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.  
  • Possesses strong training and mentoring skills with the ability to develop an effective team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety.
  • Demonstrated understanding of risk analysis.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Vision to perceive risks and opportunities with superior decision-making ability to act on these accordingly.
  • French language skills are essential.
  • Experience in a developing country with a preference for West African experience.
  • Experience working in multicultural environment.
  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation and build effective relationships and networks.
  • Ability to respond to a changing work environment.
  • A reputation for integrity and ethics.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills.
