THE ROLE 

Reporting to the Director-Operations, the Plant Metallurgical Specialist operates in the short-term horizon to provide day-to-day and targeted plant operational, metallurgical and metallurgical accounting support to Endeavour Mining’s operations. As a nomad, the role holder provides direct and in-person support to all processing plants within the group to drive throughput, improve recovery and optimise plant operations. The role holder will conduct short term insight analysis, comparisons, verifications and reviews for Endeavour’s operating mines from a processing and operational excellence point of view to identify leavers for marginal or step change improvement. S/he will ensure the optimal use of PI databases, processing instrumentation and SCADA as well as appropriate forecasting, analysis and budgetary components are in order. This role’s particular focus will be in solving critical issues as they arise, in alignment with group Standards.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Extractive Metallurgy :

  • Be able to directly support the entire workflow of an operational metallurgy related challenge from problem identification, solution recommendation, implementation and presentation of results.
  • Be able to scope, commission, and manage contractors who are in the remit of this position.
  • Support budget and forecasting requirements, reviews, and inputs. Be able to understand and keep track of all critical deliverables on each site, to ensure the delivery of key operational project delivery.
  • Play active role and support sites in routine metallurgical test programs – both bench and pilot scale – to optimise process effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Support and liaise with process operations to conduct plant trials and lab test to assess grid optimisation, reagent schemes and short-term blend optimisation to ensure effective and efficient process.
  • Liaise with process operations to ensure that sampling and testing are conducted in accordance with Endeavour Mining Standard and industry best practices for quality assurance.
  • Liaise with the processing operations and technical teams to ensure correct information is used for technical analysis.
  • Liaise with process operations to ensure metallurgy standards in place and being followed to ensure optimal recovery.
  • Work with site and group geology to understand ore profile and support processing operations in defining how best to process.
  • Complete short-term budgeting and build up reviews, identifying opportunities for further financial savings or production increase opportunities.
  • Align short term optimisation with long term value and mine plans.

Metallurgical Accounting :

  • Review metallurgical accounting system and liaise with group Metallurgy SME to align to as well as improve met accounting standards for accurate reconciliation of metal balances.
  • Ongoing review sites performance reports (recovery, throughput, reagent consumption, power consumption) and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct ongoing reviews and checks on water balance and decant management
  • Validate equipment KPIs and cost metrics for accuracy.
  • Provide ongoing support for GIC management including drawdowns to keep inventory at optimal levels. 
  • Liaise with process operations and group Metallurgy SME to ensure standards for metal accounting best practices are in place and diligently followed.

Plant Operations :

  • Deliver assurance to company leadership that short term plans at operational sites are highly optimized, low risk, and achievable.
  • Develop site team technical and operational skills through training, mentoring, and assisting site teams.
  • Develop and write standards in the planning and operational arena for production and safety.
  • Provide ongoing operational technical support.
  • Liaise with process operations to ensure standards for equipment operation are in place are being followed.
  • Conduct ongoing diagnostics to identify operational issues and liaise with site operations to conduct root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.

Optimisation and Continuous Improvement (Operational Excellence) :

  • Be able to create ad-hoc assessments for cost / cash flow, NPV and IRR.
  • Contribute to overall business improvement and profitability by identifying and working with sites to implement efficiency plans and cost reduction plans where possible within the department whilst supporting organisational objectives and achievement of set targets.

Staff Development:

  • Provide guidance, coaching and technical assistance and support to the Metallurgists on the operational sites

Safety Management:

  • Demonstrate personal commitment regarding safety, environmental and Social Responsibility practices.
  • Ensure that agreed procedures, safeguards and controls are applied and used.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with Company standards and procedures.

KEY REQUIREMENTS 

Education :

  • BS Degree in Metallurgy, Minerals Engineering or Chemical Engineering.

Experience & Skills :

  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in similar Gold mining & processing environment
  • English skills essential, French highly desirable.
  • Experience in West African desirable.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Proficiency in Processing modelling software and techniques, such as GoldSim, MetSim, or other software.
  • Sound base financial knowledge of main cost drivers in this environment.
  • Knowledge of Gold operations in developing countries essential.
  • Excellent understanding of the mining industry, industry practices, regulations and technical advancements.
  • A proven history in delivering results to schedule and budget while having demonstrated a proactive commitment to a safe working environment.
  • Experience working in multicultural environment.
  • Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation and build effective relationships and networks.
  • Demonstrates strong conceptual skills and be capable of developing lateral and practical solutions.
