
THE ROLE
Reporting to the General Manager, the Mining Manager is responsible for leading and optimizing all mining operations to ensure safe, efficient, and predictable production. This role oversees mine planning, drilling and blasting, load and haul operations, contractor performance, cost control, and compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. The Mining Manager drives operational discipline, fosters a high-performance culture, and ensures seamless coordination between mining, processing, maintenance, and support functions.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Operational Leadership
- Lead day to day mining operations to achieve production, cost, and quality targets.
- Ensure strict adherence to mine plans, short interval control, and operational KPIs.
- Drive continuous improvement in productivity, equipment utilization, and cycle efficiency.
- Maintain strong field presence to monitor execution and coach supervisors and operators.
Mine Planning & Technical Excellence
- Develop and execute weekly, monthly, and annual mine plans.
- Validate drill and blast designs, loading patterns, and fragmentation strategies.
- Ensure accurate grade control, ore/waste separation, and reconciliation with geology and processing.
- Collaborate with Corporate Technical Services to undertake long term planning, pit optimization, and develop life of mine strategies.
People Leadership & Workforce Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop mining supervisors, engineers, and operators.
- Build a disciplined, performance driven culture with clear expectations and accountability.
- Manage workforce planning, shift structures, and succession development for key roles.
- Strengthen local talent development and community workforce integration.
Contractor & Stakeholder Management
- Oversee Mine Contractor Contractors performance, ensuring compliance with contracts, KPIs, and safety standards.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and enforce corrective actions where required.
- Maintain strong relationships with internal departments, communities, and regulatory bodies.
Cost Control & Resource Management
- Manage mining budgets, cost forecasts, and operational expenditures.
- Identify cost saving opportunities without compromising safety or production.
Reporting & Governance
- Deliver accurate daily, weekly, and monthly production reports.
- Track and analyze operational KPIs, variances, and improvement actions.
- Ensure compliance with audit requirements, SOPs, and corporate governance standards.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or related field
- Minimum 10 years of mining experience, including 5+ years in supervisory or management roles.
- Strong knowledge of open pit mining operations, fleet management, and mine planning.
- Proven leadership in safety, operational discipline, and team development.
- Experience working in multicultural environments; West African experience is an advantage.
- Proficiency with mining software (e.g., Surpac, MineSched, Datamine) and fleet management systems.
