PURPOSE & OBJECTIVE

The Data Analyst - Mining Technical Services is responsible for supporting the Technical Services department in collecting, structuring, and analysing operational data to improve decision-making and performance monitoring.

The role will focus on building reliable datasets and Power BI reporting, ensuring data is consistent, accurate, and aligned with enterprise data standards.

This position plays a key role in bridging technical mining operations and the Data & Insights function, enabling scalable analytics while embedding data-driven practices into daily workflows.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Data Collection & Structuring

  • Collect and consolidate data from multiple sources (Excel, field data, operational systems) ;
  • Clean, validate, and structure datasets for analysis and reporting ;
  • Ensure consistency of data definitions and alignment with enterprise standards.

Data Modelling & Transformation

  • Design and maintain data models to support Technical Services reporting ;
  • Develop transformation logic using Power Query (M) and Excel ;
  • Ensure datasets are scalable, reusable, and analytics ready.

​​​​​Reporting & Visualisation (Power BI)

  • Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards for Technical Services (performance, KPIs, operational tracking) ;
  • Ensure reports are accurate, user-friendly, and aligned with business needs ;
  • Implement best practices in data visualisation and report performance.

Data Quality & Governance Alignment

  • Apply data quality checks and validation rules ;
  • Work with Data & Insights team to align with data governance standards, naming conventions, and documentation ;
  • Contribute to improving data reliability and traceability.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with Technical Services teams to understand business needs ;
  • Translate operational requirements into data and reporting solutions ;
  • Act as a liaison between Technical Services and Data & Insights.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Education:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, 2-3 years of experience or a related technical field.
  • Exposure to geoscience or mining domain is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

  • Strong experience in Power BI (data modelling, DAX, dashboard design).
  • Strong proficiency in Excel (advanced) and Power Query.
  • Solid understanding of data modelling concepts (tables, relationships, measures).
  • Experience with SQL and data platforms (Snowflake is a plus).
  • Ability to work with multiple data sources and integrate datasets.

Data & Analytics

  • Strong understanding of data quality, data transformation, and reporting logic.
  • Ability to structure raw operational data into actionable insights.
  • Experience working with operational or industrial data is a plus.

Business & Soft Skills

  • Ability to understand technical/mining operations context.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Structured, detail-oriented, and problem-solving mindset.
  • Ability to work in a dual reporting environment (Business + Data function).
