PURPOSE & OBJECTIVE
Under the responsibility of the Underground Superintendent, the airleg miners will be responsible to execute vertical mining practices as instructed by the procedures.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
General :
- Operate airleg rock-drilling equipment to advance ventilation rises and undertake stoping activities.
- Drill blast holes to specified patterns and depths, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Charge and fire blast holes in accordance with site procedures and legal requirements.
- Scale and clean faces after blasting to ensure a safe working area.
- Install ground support systems (e.g., rock bolts, mesh, split sets) as required.
- Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot airleg equipment and associated tools.
- Handle Special Projects.
- All duties as directed by the leadership team.
Safety Management :
- Demonstrate personal commitment to safety, environmental and social responsibility practices.
- Ensure compliance with mine safety regulations, ventilation requirements, and hazard-control procedures.
- Ensure that procedures, safeguards and controls (regulations) are applied (complied with and enforced) and used.
- Ensure that all activities are conducted safely and in accordance with the Company's standards and procedures.
- Ensure that hazard management plans are followed.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- Valid underground mining certifications (e.g., explosives handling, mining induction) as required by local regulations.
- Proficiency in operating airleg and pneumatic drilling equipment.
- Minimum 3 years of underground mining experience in a similar position.
- Strong understanding of underground mining methods, safe blasting procedures, and ground-control principles.
- Ensure compliance with mine safety regulations, ventilation requirements, and hazard-control procedures.
- Be able to identify any hazard and be able to implement controls to eliminate or minimize the risk.
- Knowing how to read and write in French and/or English.
- Have skills in leadership, communication, decision-making, problem solving and hazard identification.
- Demonstrated supervisory skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Demonstrate good physical fitness.
- Ability to adapt to a changing work environment.
