Executive Management

Sébastien de Montessus , CEO

Sébastien de Montessus is CEO of Endeavour Mining. Under his leadership, he has introduced key strategic objectives that have created a sustainable business that generates long term cash flow.

Previously, Sébastien served as the CEO of the La Mancha Group for four years between 2012 and 2016. Under his leadership, La Mancha doubled its production through optimization efforts before undergoing a significant portfolio restructuring. Prior to this, Sébastien was a member of the Executive Board and Group Deputy CEO of AREVA Group, a leading nuclear energy company and CEO of AREVA Mining, which focused on uranium assets. He has also served as a Board member of Evolution Mining (2015 - 2018) and ERAMET (2010 - 2012).

Before joining AREVA in 2002, Sébastien was an investment banker at Morgan Stanley in London specializing in M&A and Equity Capital Markets. Sébastien is a business graduate from ESCP-Europe Business School in Paris.

Mark Morcombe , Executive VP and Chief Operating Officer

Mark Morcombe joined Endeavour Mining in May 2019 as Chief Operating Officer, bringing with him more than 25 years of experience in the mining industry with extensive expertise in leading safety, environment, mine planning, cost and productivity initiatives.

Prior to joining Endeavour, Mark was Chief Operating Officer of Centamin Plc, operator of the Sukari Mine in Egypt, and before this, he held the same role at Acacia Mining. Between late 2010 and April 2016, he held several senior roles at AngloGold Ashanti, including Senior Vice President, Planning and Business Development and Senior Vice President Ghana, during which he led the Obuasi gold mine turnaround project.

Mark holds a degree in Mining Engineering from the Western Australian School of Mines.

Pascal Bernasconi , Executive VP Public Affairs, CSR, and Security

Pascal Bernasconi is Endeavour Mining’s Executive VP for Public Affairs, CSR and Security.

Pascal joined Endeavour from the La Mancha Group, where he was General Manager of Société des Mines d’Ity, bringing with him significant experience managing complex operating environments. He began his career in the nuclear industry at COGEMA, where he managed a large nuclear site in France for five years before moving to Areva’s mining operations in Kazakhstan and in Niger.

Pascal holds a PhD in Physics and Chemistry from Université Nancy 1 and a diploma in finance controlling.

Patrick Bouisset , Executive VP Exploration & Growth

Patrick Bouisset joined Endeavour Mining as the Executive Vice President of Exploration in November 2015, with over 30 years of experience in mining and oil and gas exploration.

Prior to joining Endeavour Mining, he was Executive Vice President Exploration and New Ventures of La Mancha and before that, Vice President of Geoscience for Areva’s Business Group. For six years, as a member of the executive committee of Areva Mines, he led worldwide exploration activities and managed all of its not yet producing subsidiaries. Before joining Areva in 2007, he spent more than 20 years overseas during his career with Total, leading all of the company’s exploration activities in Africa.

Patrick holds a master’s degree in Geology from Orleans University.

Morgan Carroll , Executive VP Corporate Finance & General Counsel

Morgan Carroll joined Endeavour Mining at its inception as a mining company in 2011, and has over 15 years of experience in mining finance and advisory.

Morgan initially practised as a natural resources lawyer at a large multinational law firm in New York and London, and worked at several US and European banks in structured finance roles, before joining Endeavour Financial on the advisory side in 2008. He has wide-ranging experience advising on base metals, precious metals, and oil and gas financings and corporate transactions. Throughout his career, his areas of focus have been corporate and project finance, debt and equity capital markets, M&A and corporate development, joint ventures, and Board-level governance.

Morgan is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin (LL.B, Ling. Germ.) and the University of London (LL.M). He is admitted as an Attorney in the State of New York and as a Solicitor in England & Wales.

Henri de Joux , Executive VP People & IT and Interim CFO

Henri de Joux joined Endeavour Mining as Executive Vice President of People and IT in October 2016 and is currently Interim Chief Financial Officer.

Prior to this, Henri served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Strategy Officer at Business France, the French agency with a presence in 70 countries in charge of developing export and attracting foreign investment. Before joining Business France, he worked at the Orange Group for fifteen years, holding a number of senior executive positions including Group Deputy General Secretary and company secretary, Chief of Staff of the Deputy CEO in charge of Finance and operations in Spain, Member of the Supervisory Board at Orange Polska SA and Director of Orange Jordan and Mobinil Telecommunications (Egypt).

Henri is a graduate of EM Lyon Business School and the French Bar School in Paris, as well as holding an Auditor qualification from the Institute of Higher National Defence Studies (IHEDN) in Paris. He holds a rank of Colonel in the French Air Force as a reserve military personnel.

Michael E. Beckett is Chairman of the Board of Endeavour Mining. With more than 45 years’ experience in the mining sector, he has been involved in the development of some of the world’s largest gold mines in the USA, Africa and Papua New Guinea; iron ore mines in West Australia; industrial minerals in the Ukraine, Russia and Indonesia; and platinum mines in South Africa. He was previously Chairman of Ashanti Goldfields, WBB Minerals, Clarkson, the Thomas Cook Group and MyTravel and Managing Director of Consolidated Gold Fields.

James Askew, Non-Executive Director

Jim Askew is a mining engineer with more than 45 years of international and technical expertise. He has served as Chief Executive Officer and board member for a number of publicly listed mining companies, and brings a wealth of experience in design, construction and operations of both open pit and underground mines. Jim is currently Chairman of Syrah Resources and a non-executive director of Evolution Mining. He has previously served on the boards of several resource public companies, including OceanaGold (Chairman November 2006 – July 2019).

Alison Baker, Non-Executive Director

Alison Baker is a chartered accountant with over 25 years’ experience in providing audit, capital markets, advisory and assurance services. Alison has extensive emerging markets experience in the energy and mining sectors, having previously led the UK and EMEA Oil & Gas practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers and prior to that the UK Energy, Utilities and Mining Assurance practice at Ernst & Young. She is currently a non-executive director and Audit Committee Chair at FTSE250 listed companies KAZ Minerals plc and Helios Towers plc, the leading independent telecommunications tower company in Africa, and senior independent director and Audit Committee Chair at Rockhopper Exploration plc. She is a qualified chartered accountant of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales and earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematical sciences from Bath University.

Sofia Bianchi, Non-Executive Director

Sofia Bianchi is a finance professional with over 30 years of experience. During her career she played a leading role in the establishment of the first dedicated African infrastructure fund focused on financing private sector infrastructure projects as Deputy Managing Director of the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund. She is the Founding Partner of Atlante Capital Partners, which specializes in investing in structurally undervalued businesses in emerging markets, and currently Head of Special Situations, as well as a Member of the Investment Committee for Debt and Infrastructure, at the CDC Group plc, a development finance institution. She is currently an independent non-executive director of Yellow Cake plc and Sitex SA and served on the Board of Kenmare Resources plc from 2008 to 2017. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the George Washington University and an MBA from The Wharton School.

HÉLÈNE CARTIER, NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Hélène Cartier is a mining sector professional with over 20 years of experience, predominantly in the areas of environment and sustainability. She is currently the Vice President of Environment and Sustainable Development at Falco Resources Ltd, a position she has held since 2017. Prior to this, she has held similar positions at Osisko Mining Corporation and Canadian Malartic Mine during its development and start-up phase. She began her career in the mining industry at Cambior Inc. In addition to these positions, she is a member of the board of the Association Minière du Québec.

She holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from École Polytechnique de Montréal and a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Montréal. A member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec, Hélène is a certified corporate director from the Collège des Administrateurs de Société.

Livia Mahler, Non-executive Director

Livia Mahler brings strong expertise in corporate governance to the Board, having sat on a number of Audit and Compensation committees during her career. Livia is currently an independent director and Chair of the Compensation Committee and member of the Audit Committee at Ivanhoe Mines. Prior to this, Livia served on the Audit and Compensation committees of Diversified Royalty Corp., Turquoise Hill Resources and DuSolo Fertilizers. She is a co-founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Computational Geosciences, of Vancouver, Canada, which provides technological solutions to maximize the value of geophysical exploration surveys. She also is co-founder and managing partner of Greenstone Venture Partners, a Vancouver-based venture-capital fund targeting private, early-stage, information technology companies, and previously was Senior Investment Manager in the Venture Capital Division of the Business Development Bank of Canada. Livia has an MBA degree from the University of British Columbia (Canada) and a Bachelor of Science degree from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Naguib Sawiris, Non-executive Director

Naguib Sawiris is Chairman of the Advisory Board of La Mancha, Chairman of the Board of Orascom TMT Investments, Executive Chairman of Orascom Investment Holding and a non-executive director of Golden Star Resources. Mr. Sawiris serves on a number of additional boards, committees and councils including the London Stock Exchange Group’s Africa Advisory Group, and the Arab Thought Foundation. The Sawiris family has substantial interests in the telecom, construction, fertilizer, cement, real estate and hotel development industries and other businesses. Mr. Sawiris founded Orascom Telecom Holding and developed it into a leading regional telecom player until a merger with VimpelCom Ltd created the world’s sixth largest mobile telecommunications provider. Mr. Sawiris has received a number of honorary degrees, industry awards and civic honors, including the “Légion d’honneur”, the highest award given by the French Republic for outstanding services rendered to France, the honor of Commander of the Order of the “Stella della Solidarietà Italiana”, and the prestigious “Sitara-e-Quaid-e-Azam” award for services rendered to the people of Pakistan in the field of telecommunications, investments and social sector work. Mr. Sawiris holds a diploma of Mechanical Engineering with a Masters in Technical Administration from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich ETH Zürich and a Diploma from the German Evangelical School, Cairo, Egypt.

TERTIUS ZONGO, NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Tertius Zongo is the former Prime Minister of Burkina Faso, a position which he held from 2007 until 2011. Prior to this, Tertius served as Burkina Faso’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the USA from 2002 until 2007. He has also held a number of positions within the Burkinabe government including Minister of State for Planning and Budget and Minister of Economy and Finance.

Before his career in government, Tertius taught accounting, business economics and financial management at the University of Ouagadougou and the National School of Financial Controls in Burkina Faso. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and a master’s degree in economics from the University of Dakar, Senegal, in addition to a business management degree from the Institute of Business Management of Nantes, France.
